A day at the races

Today I went to the races in Drachten. I got there around 10AM when they were still preparing the strip by putting down some rubber:

I walked around a bit and checked out some cars:

Work on the strip kept on going...

Not all cars were racers.

A big-ass Mustang in between two tiny VW Golfs.

The weather guys forecasted 50% rain which unfortunately turned into 100% monsoon just before the final preparations of the drag strip:

Everything turned into one big puddle and no cars were allowed to drive for at least one hour. Shortly after the monsoon they fired up a huge blowdryer to dry the track and I just walked around a bit more:

This is what you get when front-wheel drive's go drag-racing ;-)

Before the races started there was a Jet Truck show which was pretty cool. I had seen it before though. I reckon this dude shows up at all these events.

There were surprisingly many female drivers.

The track was ready aroung 13:30 and cars (and bikes) were asked to line up.

Japanese dragster... They sound like mosquitoes...

This Ford Mustang was sooo loud it nearly made me shit my pants, Very aggressive car, awesome though!

And then, finally the races started!

Here's that Mustang again, it took off really fast but it sounds like something went wrong after a hundred or so meters...

Here's an older Mustang in the back-lane. I doubt there's much original of the car left though ;-)

Get ready....

GO!

Some more awesome cars:

And finally a few shots before I left to go home again:

Would you believe there were even little Opel Corsa's racing?

It was a fun day and I'm happy to better understand drag racing now :-)
